Julian Roel
Julian Roel is an up and coming saxophonist on the New York jazz and pop scene. He began playing jazz music at the age of 11 in San Diego California, his home from birth until college. There, he encountered and was mentored by musicians including alto saxophonist Charles McPherson and trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos. Roel moved to New York City in 2018 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance at the New School of Jazz and Contemporary music. He is currently in his last semester of undergraduate study and will finish his Master’s of Arts Management and Entrepreneurship (MA AME) in the spring of 2023 at the same university. Since moving to New York, Roel has been gigging around the city with a number of groups, including several he helped to create. Among these are “6th Borough Jazz”, a vibraphone/ saxophone duo that plays restaurants in Hoboken and “Just Friends,” a trio project that completed its first tour of Europe July 2021.
